About the Practice

We help you to regain your health and maximize your quality of life, then empower you to sustain and expand it amidst life’s daily challenges and stresses.

Our Unique Approach

Are you passionate about the value of your health? The value of you, having a high level quality of life lived with vitality and expanded capacity?  I believe that people can live as fully and freely as possible, unconstrained by pain,  illness and limited focus and mental clarity.

The office is in an upscale professional setting near the top of the Perimeter, with free parking, easy access to and from the medical complex of Northside and St. Joseph’s and has a warm, calming and relaxing welcoming atmosphere. Once you are in the session, I  create the conditions that enable you to feel at ease (tailoring the conditions that are uniquely suited to you.)  You will experience
a calm and very comforting environment with one-on-one total dedicated attention for the duration of the session.

This approach is distinct from the conventional medical approach for the following  reasons:

Our Foundational Perspective

We align with Dr. Franklyn Sills, pioneer in the Craniosacral Biodynamics, who stresses that

  • Structure and Function are Interdependent.
    • Another way of saying this is that the anatomy of the body is of crucial importance in relationship to its functioning.
    • Despite the obviousness of this statement, it is not stressed in conventional medicine to the degree it is in our work.
    • Life is expressed via motion, as seen in the voluntary motions of the musculoskeletal system or the involuntary motions of the cells, fluids, and tissues of the body
    • Resistances and congestion within the tissue and fluid relationships are seen to be precursors to pathology.
  • The body is self-healing, self-regulating, and self integrating.
    • It already has the information it needs to heal and maintain a balanced state
    • There is an Intelligence at work within the mind-body process.
    • This Intelligence knows what to do.
    • The practioner assists, supports, and facilitates the inherent Intelligence.
  • The human system is a unified entity and should function as such.
    • It cannot be reduced down to a conglomerate of its parts.
    • Inertia found in any part of the human system has repercussions for the whole system.
    • For example a hip pain, may be due  to a process located in a different part of the body or even another system of the body.

Equilibre is a Unique Blend of Healing Modalities

The Equilibre process blends three distinct and complementary approaches to retrieve health and vitality.  Each of these approaches has a well-researched and powerful history of enhancing the nervous system and helping individuals retrieve maximum functioning.  When these three modalities are blended together, as in the Equilibre process, a powerful and effective process results.

The three modalities that form the triad of Equilibre are:

What is the process for a typical Equilibre Session?

  •  A typical session lasts between 50 minutes and 90 minutes.
  • The setting is a welcoming, comfortable, silent, softly-lit office.
  •  The session starts with up to 10 minutes of dialogue. This dialogue continues during the session, when necessary.
  • You wear loose and comfortable clothing, and remove your shoes before reclining on a comfortable massage table.
  • Through Sophie's highly skilled hands, she makes contact with your head, sacrum, or any area (in agreement with the client)
  • In cases where your pain is too acute to be touched, she uses other approaches that enable relief without directly touching the painful area.
  • The Equilibre process utilizes the most appropriate modality (or a blend) based on the clients needs
    • Using a touch generally no heavier than the weight of a nickel, Sophie tunes to the Craniosacral Fluid rhythm impulse at key body points to recognize  the source of an obstruction or restriction.
    • AntiGymnastique
Trains the brain to connect with different parts of the body, to promote self-awareness of the voluntary nervous system.
    • Shiatsu
When appropriate, the firmer pressure of Shiatsu is used to help the muscles release, stimulating the production of endorphins which have a calming and restorative effect.

  •  The touch is delicate, sensitive and respectful, and is oriented to the entirety of your body’s unified function.
  • Once a source of an obstruction is determined, Sophie supports the natural movement of the fluid and related soft tissue to help your body balance itself and restore optimum functioning.
What might you experience during a session?
  • You may experience deep relaxation close to the sensation when you fall asleep.
  • You may feel the intensity of pain reducing slowly.
  • Some of you will hardly notice any major physical sensation during my evaluation and balancing, while others will experience significant sensations of muscular release and and aliveness and wholeness within the body as the evaluation process is carried out.
  • At various times throughout the session, I will support your limbs and spine while facilitating release of accumulated tension.
  • During this release of tension, you might feel a lengthening of muscles, an expansion of your thoracic cage, and/or a deepening of your breathing.
  • You may experience a realignment of the spine and rebalancing of the entire body.
  • Often, you feel more in contact with your body, and experience a sense of wholeness and wellbeing.
  • Many times you will notice a slowing down of your thoughts, stillness, aliveness, warmth, and either a lightness or a heaviness of your body in contact with the table.

What might you experience after a session?

  • After the first session, you may immediately experience an increase in energy, flexibility and sense of wellbeing.
  • If you came with an acute pain, you may immediately feel the reduction of the intensity of the pain, or the pain come and goes versus a prior constant pain.
  • An increase in function may occur immediately or it may develop gradually over the next few days.
  • Often individuals see an improvement in the quality of their sleep, their concentration, and their mood.
  • Since the Equilibre process helps the body resume its natural healing processes, it isn't unusual for your health to improve during the time between sessions.
  • For some, there may be a reorganization phase as the body adapts to the release of previously held patterns.
