Why Equilibre Can Help Athletes

For athletes, sport is an expression of their passion for life, and it’s extremely traumatic if pain and limited mobility prevent them from playing their sport or even leading an active life beyond their careers as athletes.

Through Equilibre work, many people who tried surgery, medications and other therapies responded to this healing work when nothing else helped in a lasting way. These are people who had suffered from daily pain, and after Equilibre therapy and practice were able to return to exercise and sports and live life to the fullest.

Captain of Cross-Country Team Recovers from Stress Fracture

Sophie’s work involves a paradigm shift: from a passive approach to one’s health to an active, observational approach. Through our sessions I became more in touch with what my body was feeling and was able to remedy my pain through relaxation rather than ignorance. I realized that although I could withstand the pain in my joints, bones, and muscles by simply ignoring it, the pain was taking a toll on my body which I was unaware of. As a young athlete, I couldn’t put a price on the longevity of my athletic career. Sophie’s work is about maintaining the body’s intended form, helping it to excel for the present and the future.   - David Dixon

I put the cane away and now I'm working out again!

Hello, my name is Marjorie Perry. I am team captain of Team Marj@Large. I was diagnosed with MS April of 2005. Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Not that long ago, I was an avid adventure and fitness enthusiast. I began developing strange symptoms such as double/blurred vision, severe fatigue, numbness and tingling in my extremities, loss of balance, decreased cognitive abilities and loss of mobility in my right leg.

Given my love of fitness and the outdoors, it made sense to face my new challenge head on with what I know and love. So, I started a bike team! It started out as a fun group of 19 friends and each year it’s grown into more and more fun with over 80 teammates, lots of volunteers, sponsors, friends, and supporters. We're committed to having a great time for a good cause.

I was referred to Sophie shortly after I began using a cane for stability and support.  Though still on the mend, within a few weeks of working with Sophie, I put the cane away, and now am working out again.  For more on my story and support team, go to www.TeamMarjatLarge.com
